Online Baccarat

Baccarat is a card game that has become very popular amongst online players in the last couple of years. Online Baccarat can be found in a growing number of online casinos and every day more players start playing this exciting game. Traditionally Baccarat was a game for the French elite, but since Ian Flemming made the game popular through his James Bond novels and the films that have made about this popular character, the game has become much less of an elite game. Since online casinos have grown in popularity so has Baccarat, which in some casinos is named Punto Banco.

What is Baccarat?

The game of Baccarat may be compared to Blackjack. Both games are card games where a player gets two cards and has to get a higher number of points than the bank. So, players do not play against each other but against a bank. In Baccarat players are aiming to get 9 points instead of 21. Just like in Blackjack players have the option of getting an extra card to try and get more points, but in Baccarat players can only get one extra card when they desire so. One of the biggest differences between Baccarat and most other casino card games is the fact that the player can bet both the player and the bank hand. When you feel the bank hand is the better hand, you can place your bet on that hand instead of the player hand.

Favorable Odds

The rules of Baccarat are not very tricky and quite easy to learn, but this does not mean that it is not an exciting game, which is one of the reasons why the game is so popular. Another reason why Baccarat is becoming increasingly popular is that the game offers players very good odds. When you compare the odds of Baccarat to other popular casino games like Roulette for example, the house edge of baccarat is a lot smaller. When you play Roulette, the house edge is somewhere around 5%, while Baccarat only offers a house edge of 1.5%. This means that you are more likely to make a profit when you play Baccarat and the casino will take much less.

Basic Baccarat Rules

In Baccarat only two hands are dealt, the player or Punto hand and the bank or Banco hand. There can be more players at one table, but still only these two hands are dealt. All players can decide which hand they want to place their bets on. Both hands consist of two cards with an optional third. All cards are worth their face value, except the tens and face cards which are worth nothing and the ace which is worth one point. You cannot get bust at Baccarat, when you go over the 9 point limit; the first digit of the number is dropped. So, when you have 14 for example, you have 4 points.
